2001 VINTAGE REPORT
This year's low yields - 40% down compared with 2000, caused by the rainfall during the flowering of the vines and the summer drought, have resulted in a great vintage quality - wise. This year we have seen the best grape ripeness levels in the past ten years. Following the 1999 and the 2000 vintage, this is the third great vintage in a row in Moldova!
The Department of Viticulture of the Ministry of Agriculture reports that a total of 310,000 tones of grapes were crushed and the average yield has been 3 tones per hectare. Moldova has, at the moment, a total of 140,000 hectares of vineyards, including those of table grapes.
